Sandy Reid has a passion for both instructing young people in fine arts and developing her own art. Her students benefit from her interest in historical and contemporary art and her flow of new ideas to convey a vast array of techniques and art forms. Curious about the outcome, she enjoys every minute of her time with her students in the progress.

Sandy graduated from Munich, Germany Academy of Social Pedagogic in 1997 where she majored in child development, education and fine Arts. She has instructed fine Arts and Crafts classes, workshops and camps for 11 years in Germany and since 2004 in Southern California where she lives with her husband and their two amazing children.
About Sandy's Classes
The imaginative, inventive and expressive art program developed by Sandy Reid is geared toward children and teens, ages 5-17. Through age-appropriate projects, children learn about artists and artist styles, develop new skills and techniques, explore creative art materials, and design original artwork. Thanks to Sandy's positive encouragement and fun, interesting challenges, young students continue to grow artistically, cognitively, emotionally and socially as they learn to see and realize their own potential and express their own inner artists!

Weekly Art Classes for Ages 5 - 12
Because motivated children learn easy and with joy, Sandy creates various inspiring and age appropriate projects in a friendly group setting of 4 to 8 students. These weekly classes will convey basic understanding of a vast variety of media and aspects such as perspective, proportions or color, in successful ways.
Mediums: tempera, watercolor, acrylic paint on canvas, graphite pencil, charcoal, charcoal pencil, pastel, oil pastel, clay, and more…

Tuition $30 per class. Monthly tuitions are to be paid by the first class of each attending month. Classes are held at Sandy's Art Studio.

DRAWING CLUB!
Drawing Club for Ages 7 - 10
(Drawing Club for Ages 11 - 14 offered on Teens page)
This class will help children to improve their drawing skills with easy steps and fun subject matter. All students will learn to draw in perspective with shading, foreshortening and overlapping elements in a variety of dry mediums. Skill level of projects will be adjusted to student's ability. Projects are not repeated and re-enrollment is encouraged.

WORKSHOPS!
Mixed Media Atelier
This class is great for Young Artists who are interested in working and learning how to apply different material in every class. The 6 exiting projects involve: Watercolor, Soft Pastel, Oil Pastel, Pen & Ink, Batik and sculpting with Clay. Students will gain understanding of the Elements & Principals of Art & Design and develop Art Appreciation within the creative process.

Teens
4 week Painting Workshops for Teens for Age 10 and Up
In these workshops we will explore how certain California contemporary artists paint local coast lines and cityscape` s in loose, expressionistic way`s. Students will pick sections of there favorite masterpiece, practice there sketching skills, than transfer the graphite drawings onto canvas, mix the right colors on there pallets and paint in oils or acrylics. These workshops will be held at Sandy's Art Studio.

Come and join two great `End of Summer Art Camps` and enjoy the last weeks of school break with special art projects. Learn about Asian art with Chinese Brush Stroke Painting; sculpt animals with clay that can be fired; learn how to create cool
looks on fabric with batik and be part of a abstract watercolor plain air project right outside the art room. What a fun way to get creative and to improve and learn new skills and techniques.

Find out about the most famous and fun fine art in the world this summer! Hand-build an African Mask like Pablo Picasso, paint houses upside down like Marc Chagall or learn how to mix the coolest and warmest colors to paint shapes with the special 'scissors' of Henri Matisse. Each camp will have a differsnt variety of new and great sculpture-making, drawing, and mixed media projects inspired by 19th to 20th-Century art movements. Sunshine Art Camp for Ages 9 - 12
Have you ever wondered why Picasso`s art is so extraordinary and famous? And did you know that he was inspired by African masks when he invented Cubism? We will hand build tribal clay masks and paint in multiple perspectives in Camp A. Camp B will be all about Surrealist Art and artists like Mark Chagall and Salvador Dali. If you love to learn more about colors and create your own large design wall paper like Henri Matisse, don't miss Camp C. If you like the Impressionists and want to paint like Monet, join us in Camp D. What all camps have in common is to engage, inspire, educate, express and impress yourself with your innate creative achievements and the art around you. All materials and snacks included. "Express Yourself" Teen Summer Camp
Away from super realist depictions we are exploring this summer a variety of painting styles like fast brush stokes, dots and impasto techniques applied with palate knives. After analyzing great works of abstract and expressionist masters and there ambitious goals, students will learn how to focus on essential elements to create nonobjective or reduced paintings with expressive color relationships and emotional content. Students will start with copying a masterpiece of their choice and work from own still life set up or photographs. This is a great way to loosen up and fall in love with acrylic and oil paints in a new way. For every level!

"Chuck Close" Style Portrait Camp
This is a fun and highly educational project that will give students a better understanding of color, value and tonality and on how to mix them. By focusing on a small areas at a time students will learn to see small shifts and how to recreate there essence. The portrait evolves square by square on a 16”x20” stretched canvas. For any level.
Please bring a 8”x10” close up portrait photo in color of yourself or somebody you`d like to paint.

It`s not realy the end of summer yet, but this is the last summer camp this year and it will be extra special: under the trees of Sandy`s Art Studio patio! We will paint wonderful underwater landscapes and sealife in bright watercoler. We will model with clay that can be fired and learn how to paint beautiful chinese brushstroaks and most of al... have lots of fun in the process!!!

Sandy's Art Studio for Children and Teens!
"As a person who grew up surrounded by art every day (both of my parents had Master's Degrees in Art) and watching the creative process in action firsthand, I knew that I had an inside view that would make it difficult for me to settle for just any art program when it came to my own daughter's education. I had high standards because I felt strongly that while many art teachers focus on technique, they miss the most important parts of the creative process. Specifically, I wanted an art program that would allow a child's creativity to develop freely while introducing artistic techniques that they could grow with.
Of paramount importance in any art program would be the continual fostering of the innate love of artistic expression that I believe all children have. What I specifically did not want was a "paint by numbers" style of art class, whereby children are taught a limited process that results in all of their art looking the same while squelching their free creative expression. In my opinion, those kinds of classes are one step up from coloring books, and although they have their place, they are not for parents who want their children to truly learn how to be free, creative, skilled, lifelong artists who love the process.
After trying many classes over the years, I finally discovered Ms. Sandy Reid. She is exactly what I was looking for. She is an experienced artist herself who has a gifted way of connecting with children. She teaches excellent artistic techniques while allowing the children to explore their individuality. Each and every child is able to express themselves artistically in ways that result in unique pieces representing their originality. In Sandy's classes, my daughter learns a different artistic technique each time, a different way of seeing things, a different medium with which to express herself, a different way to see and experience art. My daughter comes home from every class bubbling over with excitement and inspired to delve into more art at home.
Besides learning art the only way it should be learned (in my opinion), the children are nurtured by Sandy's loving and kind way. She truly cares about the children she teaches, and that is obvious from the first moment you see her in action. Because of how Sandy teaches art, I truly believe that my children will have the love of artistic expression for a lifetime, along with the skills to support such a passion".
