Gandalf came to visit Bilbo at Bag End. He discovered that the Hobbit had a Ring of power that could make him invisible.
Gandalf encouraged Bilbo to leave Bag End and leave the Ring behind.
Gandalf told Bilbo's nephew Frodo to take the Ring to the Prancing Pony Inn at the village of Bree.
Frodo went with his friends Sam, Merry and Pippin.
Gandalf wasn't at the Inn when the Hobbits arrived, but they met Aragorn, a Ranger, there.
The Ringwraiths came and attacked them, and they had to flee.
Aragorn took the Hobbits into the wilderness to escape the Ringwraiths.
There they met Arwen, daughter of Elrond, Aragorn's girlfriend.
She brought the injured Frodo to Rivendell to be healed.
Elrond, the mighty Elf-lord and ruler of Rivendell, healed Frodo.
He called a meeting to decide what to do about the Ring.
The Fellowship of the Ring was formed. Legolas, Gimli and Boromir joined Gandalf, Aragorn and the Hobbits.
Together, they set out to go to Mordor to destroy the Ring.
The evil Wizard Saruman was determined to stop the Fellowship if he could - and take the Ring for himself.
Sauron's evil influence grew stronger as the Fellowship drew closer to Mordor.
The Ring was his, and he didn't understand about finders being keepers.
After losing Gandalf in the Mines of Moria, the Fellowship made their way to Lothlorien, an Elven realm.
Celeborn and Galadriel were the rulers of Lothlorien, and they allowed the Fellowship to stay with them for a while.
Frodo offered to give the Ring to Galadriel, but... well... that turned out to be a bad idea.
Thankfully, she decided to give it a miss.
