Symbols Symbolism
Color: Cardinal Flower: Jacqueminot Rose Jewel: Ruby Badge: The letters A,O, and II superimposed with our jewel at the apex of the A. New Member Pin: Representing individuals united in the common bond of sisterhood. Magazine: To Dragma meaning "the sheaf". AOII is the only women's fraternity that does not use a crest. Our Founders felt that the beauty and simplicity of our badge possessed enough significance to stand alone. Crests are medieval and we are founded on Greek Ideals. Where other groups might use a crest, we display the rose.

We want girls who will not only take a lot of fun and happiness out of college but also put some useful service into it, who will have enough grace to be popular, enough generosity to enjoy life with others and the esteem of others, but enough character to do all this without making the slightest concession of principal or conduct." -Stella George Stern Perry

HeritageHistory Heritage & History
Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University by four young women - Helen St. Clair Mullen, Stella George Stern Perry, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, and Jessie Wallace Hughan.
One of the founders, Stella, is quoted as saying...
"We wanted a fraternity that should carry on the delightful fellowships and cooperation of college days into the workaday years ahead and to do so magnanimously. Above all, we wanted a high and active special purpose to justify existence and a simple devotion to some worthy end."
