A little info
Ann Tweedale Cooperative is the largest womens cooperative house at Purdue University. Every year, the women of this house welcome new members in the spring. By mixing education with sisterhood, AT provides a positive atmosphere where women can learn about themselves and be part of an organization that has been around since 1937. AT is more than just a place to stay to the women of AT. It's a place to call home and relax after an exhausting day of classes and other school activities. With women from the most northern to southern ends of Indiana and other states, AT provides a diverse atmosphere where education, sisterhood and fun meets.
About Us
About Us
Ann Tweedale, our namesake, was a brave and courageous woman who, in 1884 along with 27 men, formed the first cooperative store in Rochdale, England. This store, at the present time, is one of the largest in England. The first principle of these Rochdale Pioneers was democracy. Cooperatives are created for ourselves and within ourselves.Cooperating literally means "working together." What is impossible for a few is easy for many. Everyone must know their part and feel that they are working toward a common goal. Each Cooperative House at Purdue does all their own cooking and cleaning, making the cost of living very affordable. All of the chores at Ann Tweedale are divided up among each member. Each week the women have particular responsibilites around the house

Responsibilities
Minors:These consist of one or two small chores a week, taking approximately Ten to fifteen minutes to compelete each one.Wake: There are no alarm clocks at AT! Don't worry though, we "wake" each other up. Each morning a different member comes into the cold air dorm to wake everyone up on the hour or half-hour. The night before, each woman sets her time on a tag board of when she would like to be woken up, and the "wake" person acts as her personal alarm clock. This especially comes in handy when you want to make sure you get up for an exam in the morning!Majors:Each woman will have two to three thirty minute long cleaning projects that are randomly assigned throughout each semester.Kitchen Minutes:Approximately ninety minutes of kitchen duty per week are given to each AT member. She will be assigned, accomidating her class schedule, breakfast cleanup, lunch prep, lunch clean-up, dinner prep, or dinner clean-up.Phone Duty:Phone duty is enforced Monday through Thursday nights beginning at 7pm. Each member may have a two hour duty three to four times a semester. This simply means answering the phone as well as answering the door.

"The Best thing by far about living in AT is the friends you make. I have met all my future bridesmaids and best friends here. I have only lived here for one semester and so far it has been a blast! It's great to know that no matter what's happening in your life, someone will care and support you when you walk in the door. The different activities we did during pledgeship have made me super close with my pledge class. I would never trade living at AT for anything! It has been the best decision I've made in college." - Megan Moran PC '08Living in Ann Tweedale Cooperative has been one of the most rewarding decisions I've made so far. Keeping the house nice makes me feel proud that I live here. The house becomes so much more than a house to the girls who live here; it becomes a home. It is so nice to be able to come home after a long day of classes rather than to a room in a building that has been assigned to you. There is always someone to talk to and always someone who will understand exactly what you've been through because they have been through it too. Happily, there is always something to do! With 38 girls under one roof, it never gets boring! I have met my best friends in Ann Tweedale; the girls I know will be in my wedding and the girls I know will be here for me forever. The girls of Ann Tweedale become a strong family willing to do anything for any sister in need. I know I made the right choice when I decided to live in Ann Tweedale Cooperative. It has made my college experience more rewarding than I ever could have imagined." - Adrienne Clevenger PC '07"I moved into Ann Tweedale as a freshman. Home was four hours away and I was so scared. The girls here immediately became my family. They have always been here for me whether I needed directions on campus or needed someone to cry to when I had a broken heart. Living in Ann Tweedale has made my college experience so much fun. If I am ever bored, I know that I can walk into any room and find someone to talk to or something to do. These girls have become the best friends that I have ever had and I could not imagine my life without them."- Lauren Parmley PC'06The reason I love Ann Tweedale so much is because I have had so many awesome memories from living in this house. I moved into AT my freshman year. As soon as I came here I threw myself into a whole new world. I knew college would be different from high school, but all the girls were different too. This house has so many personalities. Each and every one of these girls brings something different to this house. I couldn't ask for a better place to live or better people to live with. Ann Tweedale will always bring me back to my college years and I will have these memories in my heart forever. And that quote that you hear everywhere "You don't come to college to find a husband, you come to college to find your bridesmaids" is completely true. I love these girls like they are my sisters and no doubt will none of my bridesmaids not be an AT girl . - Lindsay Clark, PC'05"I love AT because it has given me an opportunity to work and live with other girls. It was really hard for me growing up because I am an only child. I always felt alone even in high school. Living in this wonderful house has taught me many things, but I believe most of these lessons were learned during pledgeship. The most important lesson is to stick together as a family, that's what Ann Tweedale is all about. I love AT because all of the girls and the amazing friendships that will last a lifetime." - Jenny Smith, PC'04

Socials
Socials are functions/events that we have with other men and women's cooperative houses along with fraternities.Functions/events are a great way to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere with fellow cooperative members and get to know houses within the Greek system. A few of our traditional functions include:A barn dance every fall with another houseA formal in the winterA shipwreck themed function every spring.Grand Prix: A week in the spring is filled with fun and excitement! We are paired up with a men's fraternity or cooperative. During this week we have a fun event or party every day! Each girl is paired with a "buddy" from the other house to hang out with and go to the race with.Sisterhood Functions:We also have events almost every month with only us. These really help us get to know each other better and bring us closer as a house. Activites range from punkin carving at halloween to watching a movie together. We have special dinners within the house, including our Thanksgiving Dinner, Scholarship Dinners and Mom's day Dinner, where we invite friends and family to come and celebrate! At Christmas time, AT is transformed into a living Christmas card with lovely decorations and a big tree. Before leaving for home, we have our own Christmas party and a secret pixie gift exchange. Each of us, acting secretly, do nice or funny things as a "pixie" and give gifts to a randomly selected girl in the house and then guess who has who!Sports: For those who are sports-minded, the house competes with other houses and intermural teams in sports including: football, softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and dodgeball! Your sport not listed? We will add it, our sports chair is always adding new sports for us to play! The spirit and teamwork shown by the players brings house members closer together.Life at Ann Tweedale is a combination of many activities; helping a sister, planning a special event, or giving your big sister breakfast in bed! Some of the fun is planned, while other is spontaneous. All of it eases the strain of college life and make it more enjoyable.
