Halden hound is unfortunately a rare breed in Norway today and the Norwegian Kennel Club is working to preserve the breed.
Halden hound is a steady and friendly family dog, a healthy breed, and a good hunting dog, mainly for the hare.
My desire is to use my Halden Hound for hunting and shows.
How old the breed is, nobody knows for sure. But it can certainly be traced back to the 1860s.
The real origin is believed to be the local rabbit breed that was found in Østfold District, once back in the last century were crossed with harriet, foxhund and probably beagle.
In each case, Halden Hound had many features in common with both Harriet and foxhund, both in color and body building. It looks indeed like a lightly built foxhund.
