Symbiocity:"What makes the project fascinating is the way that the energy symbiosis generates such rich spatial and formal pattern. The development of the project through each stage of radical up-scaling is skilful and completely convincing"Jonathan Adams, reporting for Blueprint Magazine Student Best in Show 2011

ABOUT
Angharad recently graduated as a Master of Architecture (RIBA Part II) from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, awarded with a Double Commendation / Merit for her Design Thesis + DissertationAngharad also completed her undergraduate degree at the WSA, achieving a BSc 2:1 in Architectural Studies (RIBA Part I) In her most recent work, Angharad worked along side her tutor, Prof. Peter Salter to develop her Masters Design Thesis which explored the concept of ‘Symbiocity’ Symbiocity is a settlement designed to be autonomous in its energy use and production, using the components of the organic cell and ecological systems as a precedent for how the city may function systematically, as well as sociallyThis work has recently been reviewed in Blueprint Magazine's 'Best Student Projects in Britain', July 2011Her Masters dissertation explored the evolution of Cultural Memory in the Japanese Minka, with experience and research accumulated over 4 years of visits to Japan

MArch Thesis Project
"This project derives a method of settlement planning from analysis of the interdependence of the living components of organic cells. The starting point of the thesis is the notion that each component of the settlement has the ability to generate, store and distribute its own energy to every other component of the settlement. What makes the project fascinating is the way that the energy symbiosis generates such rich spatial and formal pattern. The development of the project through each stage of radical up-scaling is skilful and completely convincing. Diagrams, visuals and models are used beautifully to develop the narrative, and the absence of conventional architectural renderings comes across as a strength, not a weakness"Jonathan Adams, Blueprint Magazine, 2011
