Motivation, Discrimination, and Social Learning
In 1995 Alan Kay, Seymour Papert, and Chris Dede testified before congress in a hearing on technology in education. In this clip from their testimony Kay discusses motivation, Papert discusses how schools discriminate against learners, and Dede draws attention to the social nature of learning. Compare differences and similarities we face today with education and technology. Have things changed? What do the issues raised by these three men mean for educators? What do they mean for schools?

Multiple Measures Legislation
David Bly, as a house representative from Northfield, last year proposed a bill that would require the department of education to use more than just test scores to evaluate schools. The bill has been reintroduced this fall by Carlos Mariani. Come discuss this proposed bill and what it might mean for our schools.

What counts as literacy?
This session will explore the changing nature of literacy and what "new" definitions of literacy mean for teaching and learning. What "counts" as reading and writing in your classroom? What "counts" as literacy on district and state assessments? Bring your questions and stories!
