home BIOGRAPHY
Street punk from Boston might be an accurate description, but a tragic understatement of the musical prowess of this veteran ensemble. Since FAR FROM FINISHED`s inception, countless touring miles logged behind the wheel, performing on stages across the world and back again, combined with the well rounded ear of seasoned songwriters, FAR FROM FINISHED is so much more than punk. Releasing their most ambitious effort to date, the tounge - in - cheekishly titled, FORGETTABLE, showcases FAR FROM FINISHEDs ability to harness a real sense of melody, meshed with an undeniably explosive delivery that has made the band a true to form diamond in the rough.
Fans of FAR FROM FINISHED will be familiar with the bands tendency to change styles from record to record. Their first effort, Nuthin But Class was their attempt at an old school Oi! Record, East Side of Nowhere being a standard Boston punk record, and then the most recent transition to a poppier, but still aggressive sound on Living in the Fallout.
FORGETTABLE furthers that poppy progression tenfold, to something that could be considered lacking in energy in comparison to previous efforts. It could even be considered radio friendly, as vocalist Steve Nearys voice has evolved with the band. Hes gone from a bear, as he refers to himself on Nuthin But Class, to a very clean, straightforward style that was polished up a ton in the studio. Along with cleaning up his vocal delivery, hes cleaned up his lyrics.
The latest addition to the burgeoning independent punk rock label I Hate People Records, FAR FROM FINISHED has emerged from The Outpost under the careful direction of veteran producer Jim Siegel (Dropkick Murphys, The Unseen) with a collection songs that push the limitations of the genre. String quartets, childrens choir spots, piano ballad-esque crescendos, and painfully honest lyrical storytelling make FORGETTABLE anything but. As the industrys dark horse, the boys have not only earned their stripes as certified road dogs, but have redefined the punk rock standard as a six-piece outfit with an uncompromising approach to songwriting. The potency ensures a new album, guaranteed to kick a hole in the conventional.
Far From Fnished BannerFrontman Steve Neary talked about how this go round musically would be received. I think whenever you release anything there's gonna be that feeling inside you that maybe rejection's on the horizon, but honestly you can't think like that. In the past, anything we've released has been quite different from whatever came before it, so in a sense we're ready for whatever. Fear's not your friend, so we could give a fuck if people don't approve of the musical direction we took with this record.
In addition to being FAR FROM FINISHED `s most diverse collection of songs, FORGETTABLE also remains one of the bands most personally revealing efforts just the same. Guitarist Oscar Capps detailed the therapy that the new album allowed, Lyrically and musically we tried not to hold anything back. We've got stories about drugs, fathers, wives, and mothersThe good, the bad, the ugly. It's not so much where a song came from, but where it goes and the experience of sharing it with someone else that might relate. Punk rock shows have always been a hell of a lot more fun then seeing a shrink."
FAR FROM FINISHED will take the stage all summer long during their Lost Luggage Tour 2010 in support of their latest studio release. Bassist and all around good guy, Pesky, talked about the kind of thinking the band values during such a critical time, We just bought a new cargo van and on the dash in sharpie is written "dream big, worry little". It's amusing to think of a 45-year old plumber driving around with that written on his dash. Primed to share what could arguably called the bands finest hour on record, hesitation is just not an option. FAR FROM FINISHED is resoundingly just that and FORGETTABLE, wellhardly.
