ABOUT Amanda Sparfeld is the Principal Flutist of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra at the Detroit Opera House and is the former Principal Flutist of the Miami City Ballet.
She has performed with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Allegro Chamber Orchestra, Boca Raton Symphonia, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, working with conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Valery Gergiev, Kurt Masur, and David Robertson. She is also a substitute with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and the New World Symphony.
Last Fall Amanda substituted with the New York Philharmonic for eight weeks, including a PBS Live From Lincoln Center television broadcast and the Philharmonic's Autumn European Tour. She also recently performed Wicked during December 2010 with the 2nd National Tour.
Amanda has been a featured soloist with the Allegro Chamber Orchestra, performing Vivaldi's Double Flute Concerto and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. She frequently performs solo repertoire in concert throughout the United States and Canada.
Amanda studied with Robert Langevin at Manhattan Shool of Music where she earned a Professional Studies Certificate in Orchestral Performance from the Orchestral Studies Program. She received a MM from the University of Miami where she was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, and a BA in Music from Principia College. Her teachers include Marie Jureit-Beamish, Jenny Robinson, and Christine Nield-Capote.
Amanda teaches and performs in Los Angeles and Detroit.
STUDIO Students
Students of all ages and abilities are welcome to take lessons. I love to teach and want to bring my own love of music into your lives!
Materials
All students will need a flute in good working condition. Please contact me with questions in regards to repair, purchasing, or rentals.
Students will use select method books by authors including Trevor Wye, Taffanel and Gaubert, and Rubank at the teacher's recommendation. Students will also be required to have a music stand at home for practice.
Policies
Please call 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend your regularly scheduled lesson. Make-up lessons are available for those who miss due to illness.
