About Us
Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity is a co-ed organization offering great opportunities to help out the community by engaging in service activities across the city. Founded in Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1925 by Frank Reed Horton, the fraternity was built on principles of the Boy Scouts of America. Almost 85 years later, the services of Alpha Phi Omega have permeated across the nation.
In 1987, the Alpha Alpha Zeta chapter formed here St. Marys University, and 22 years later, we are still providing these services to our community. From helping out the Girl Scouts, to assisting in awareness walks and cheering on the contenders of the citys Special Olympics, the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Omega remains strong in its principles: Leadership, Friendship, and Service.
Consisting of approximately 50 members, from various backgrounds, APO participates in service events both on and off campus. There are eight officer positions, with members serving as chairs of different committees, and pledge classes in the fall and the spring of each academic year. The ages of members range from 19 22 years, and the predominant major is biology. Since APO is a service based fraternity, a small percentage of members are also part of other social Greek sororities and fraternities.

How was rushing for APO like for you? Did you get to make new friends? Do you feel like you helped the community?
It was intense and time consuming, but very fun. I made lots of new friends and enjoyed it. We all worked hard together and it did seem like those we helped appreciated it so I would have to say that we do help the community very much.
Morgan Riddleman:
How was rushing and pledging for APO for you? Why did you choose APO? And did you enjoy it?
I chose APO because it was strictly a community service fraternity and I wanted to be a part of something bigger and something that gave back to the community. Rush and pledging was such an exciting process because I got to do it alongside my friends. It was an easy environment of people to adapt to. I love being a member of APO because everyone is so welcoming. We all have a good time together and enjoy each others company. Its like a little family, and we get to help others in the process.

Why did you choose APO? How was the pledging process for you? And what has it taught you?
I will honestly say that I chose APO because I had heard it was a service fraternity. During the pledge process I came to realize that it was not just a service fraternity, I found lots of new friends that had the same interests. I admit it is intense, but its worth it. I enjoy giving back to the community. I have learned that sometimes you have to set aside your personal priorities to help the community around you.

How was your pledge class? How was the overall experience? Did you enjoy it?
It was awesome! We had the best pledge class ever and we even have data to prove it (joke). It felt like we were family.
