The Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta was founded at the University of Kentucky on May 14, 1908, making Alpha Gam the first and longest running sorority on UK's campus!
We are also the longest, continuous active Alpha Gam Chapter!

History
Alpha Gamma Delta was officially founded on May 30, 1904 at the home of Dr. Wellesley Perry Coddington, a professor at Syracuse University who was instrumental in the early development of Alpha Gamma Delta. Each of the Fraternity's 11 founders were progressive women who selflessly contributed to the foundation and growth of Alpha Gamma Delta. Since the founding, collegiate chapters have been installed at 184 colleges and universities across North America and more than 155,000 women have become Alpha Gam sisters. Guided by our Purpose, Alpha Gams are impacting our communities and contributing to the world's work.

Our Purpose
To gain understanding that wisdom may be vouchsafed to me.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation
Alpha Gamma Delta's philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was created in 1962 ensuring that the Fraternity's mission would live on into Alpha Gamma Delta's second century, allowing women of all ages to make positive differences on their campus and in their communities-leaving a legacy for generations of women to follow.
Since 1979, diabetes has been Alpha Gamma Delta's philanthropic focus. Through the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, large grants are made annually to oranizations and individuals for diabetes research, treatment and education.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation also assists our memebers through scholarship grants, wellness programs, leadership training and workshops. Members in emergency finanical need are also aided through the support of the Foundation.
The Epsilon chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta raises money for the Foundaion in several ways. In the fall we host a benefit concert, our main philanthropy event, called Band Jam. The entire Greek community comes together to participate in lip sync contests and listen to local bands. We also participate in numerous other philanthropic events including the campus wide fundraiser Dance Blue. Alpha Gam sponsers a little girl named Cassie. Throughout the year, we love spending time with our Dance Blue family. Last year, Cassie participated in an easter egg hunt around the Alpha Gam house, enjoyed trick-or-treating with our sisters, and spent her birthday decorating cupcakes with us.

An Alpha Gam is...
Between the innocence of girlhood and leading to the wisdom of maturity, we find that amazing young woman known as an Alpha Gam. An Alpha Gam may be short or tall, big or small, blonde, brunette, or redhead, with a variety of talents, attributes, and personality traits; yet all are joined in the meaning of sisterhood.
Alpha Gams are found in tennis shoes and loafers, bathing suits and formals, in campus offices and community service, wearing an apron or a crown, behind a trophy or in a kitchen, but always with a "special charm" about her.
She's a little bit of a devil, a large chunk of angel, she's a party girl, a heartbreak and a true love, a class clown, a fraternity sweetheart and a student body president; but most of all, she's an Alpha Gam.
You can count on her to bake a dozen cookies or feed a hundred people, run a car wash or preside over Panhellenic.
She can soothe a crying baby, yet knock an All-American fullback off his feet.
She can study harder, play longer, sleep less, think deeper, yet always keep that "special" way about her.
The crowds admire her, little girls idolize her, classmates respect her, and men love her.
She can take criticism with understanding, praise with humility, and disappointment with a smile.
She's loyal, sincere, truthful and kind, a follower and a leader.
No one but an Alpha Gam can wear a pearl pin so proudly nor so truly know the meaning of a buff or crimson rose. An Alpha Gam has the world and its treasure, but she also has a special corner she shares with her sisters.
She knows that sisterhood is laughing and crying together, and it is far more than words can say.
She's everything and a little bit more she's yours, she's mine, she's an Alpha Gam girl!

Dear potential new members,
Joining a sorority is the perfect way to make the University of Kentucky campus feel like your own. Alpha Gamma Delta looks forward to Formal Recruitment every year. This year, Formal Recruitment will take place on August 14-18th. It gives the sisters of our chapter an opportunity to extend our sisterhood to others. Alpha Gamma Delta emphasizes the importance of personal skills like scholarship, leadership, personal development and philanthropy. Going through recruitment is a wonderful experience, and we encourage all potential new members to participate in Formal Recruitment this fall.
