Ian Paul Garland
Bio
Ian trained professionally in Soho, London in the early eighties as a film editor and has now worked as a freelance editor for more than 25 years.
In the 80s he worked regularly on high end 35mm commercials - Guinness, Red Mountain Coffee and pop promos - The Stranglers, Balaam and the Angel, Mamas Boys, Bananarama and many others.
In the 90s he moved more into mainstream broadcast editing. As an Avid Media Composer pioneer he has been editing non linear since it's inception in 1992, subsequently working on many peak time shows for all the major stations and many independents, on shows like Watchdog, Your Money or Your Life, for the BBC. The Southbank show, The London Programme, Beadles About for LWT. He cut the pilot show for C4's Location,location,location,
He also travelled widely and worked with independent producers on documentaries in particular The Kenya Wildlife Service for which he spent a year living and working in Kenya.
"I've been making films since I was an eight year old child and it has always been my ambition to make mainstream and commercially successful feature films. I was sidetracked into television for many years where I worked for every major station in the UK on a variety of different shows. This was a solid grounding and has given me much over the years. Ive now moved on from just the cutting rooms to follow my passion of making feature films."
In 2001 He took the first steps towards achieving this when he took an office at Pinewood Studios and established an independent production company -
G Films. He watched and learnt the big budget boys at work on films like James Bond, Tomb Raider and others on the stages and backlot.
"Whilst at the Studio I've made many great industry contacts. Their professionalism, advice and guidance have really helped me over the years. I maintained the office for over three years and learnt a great deal about large-scale big budget filmmaking and the people involved in making them.
During his time at G films, Pinewood, Ian won a contract to produce several documentary and training films for the British Army and held a contract with them for over 2 years.
In 2003 he attended his first major film festival, Cannes... as a result of this he moved to France in 2005 in order to write the screenplay for his passion project 'Mo The Story of Mohamed Amin'. He has subsequently been a regular on the Croissette and his knowledge of the film business, sales and distribution contacts has increased dramatically as a result.
'Recently I've completed two films shot in London and Provence (See Website). I have also written several screenplays that I want to develop into big features. I remain committed to producing films and music.'
'A few of my film making heroes include Hitchcock, David Lean, Spielberg, Tarantino, Ridley Scott and many other Musical influences are many, but the Beatles, Doors, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Michel Legrand, Rachmaninov are amongst the top of my list.'

Writer and Director
A versatile and dedicated film maker with experience in writing, producing, directing and editing. Trained in London, Soho as a 35mm film editor working on high end Commercials and pop promos. Now with more than twenty five years experience. He has written, produced, directed and edited; films, documentaries and broadcast television, commercials and corporate communications both in the UK and for International clients.
Experience in drama, entertainment, documentary, corporate, commercial and music promos. He is also a prolific composer of songs & soundtracks and have produced commercial music for documentaries, advertising and cinema.
In 2001 he established a production company GFilms at Pinewood Studios. He is experienced in writing, producing and directing documentary films and feature films. He left Pinewood in 2005 to live and work in France here he established a new production Company A Light in the Dark Films. He continues to produce, write, direct edit and compose music.
