People often ask me (verbatim), 'So are you a graphic designer?'
I usually answer with some lack-luster, half-hearted (or less) response that sounds more like a confused question than an assured answer, 'I guess so...'
In my head however, the real reply is usually one of two things,
'DEFINE GRAPHIC DESIGNER' or 'NO, I AM A DESIGNOLOGIST.'
Let's face it, both are slighty nerdy, awkward replies to such a polite, superficial, conversation question.
Well, just in case anyone cares about who it is I think I am and about what it is I think I do, I've decided to share a little more depth/bredth about the subject matter: me.

MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE
..to create pretty little things and lovely social stationary to capture & accentuate the beauty of everyday life.
THE ACCESSORIES OF LIFE
The innate aim of my life is to cultivate the joy and the beauty of every possible moment. Because of this, 'accessories' have emerged as what matter most to me. They are what make my life so meaningful...
..It's the sneakers I wore on my wedding day, the earrings I bought for my best friend's wedding. The necklace I got in Mexico, the purse I got in Hong Kong, the skirt I got in Thailand. It's my postcards from Rome, playing cards from Paris, hankercheif from Brugge. It's the outfits I brought my babies home from the hospital in. It's the telltale signs that my babies are no longer babies: the tiny, wild flower my little girl picked for me, the dirt my little boy smeared all over my now stained white shirt (and then laughed). It's the nostalgic smell of lilacs that takes me back to the memory of the first home my husband and I bought. It's a platter full of wheat thins, cheese, and grapes, which remind me of my first solo overnight camping trip with a boy (who, yes was already my husband)..).
Every time I come across one of the many 'accessories' of my life, my heart is instantly transcended back into a precious moment in time. And with each new, beautiful, all to fleeting happy moment, I want to cling to it forever. But, alas I can't. My life is accessorized by so much beauty that my mortal state just can't possibly store it all. So I just haphazardly collect these little bits of heaven along the way, hoping that piece by piece I will someday be able to so clearly remember it all: how I felt, what I was wearing, how the air smelled, the climate, season, and time of day...
EXTENSIONS OF WHO WE ARE
Just as all of that (and so much more!) is an extension of who I am, so too do I believe that design should be the same. I call it Representative Design. Representative Design is an extension of who we are, a representation of our selves, a way to share a part of ourselves through design, like little bits of our hearts scattered around the universe. Every time someone gives or receives a Representative Design one should feel a little bit of joy, a little bit of happiness, and a whole lot of beauty.
SPREAD JOY
Representative design is a means for helping us remember that special day, perfect moment, and joy of simply living. It may be the day we get hitched, or perhaps it is the day we are given the miraculous gift of bringing a child into the world. Maybe it is the time we can't help but to write a heartfelt note to a friend, or throw a party to celebrate an accomplishment. Perhaps it is an opportunity to extend our vital network of symbiotic relationships, or perhaps we are simply rejoicing to have air in our lungs and to be so vibrantly alive.
It is indeed a culmination of all of both the little and big moments that make life so beautiful. Perhaps we can't make every moment last, but we surely can find ways to transcend us back to the memory, to find joy in making more, and to spread that happiness with others around us!

WHO I AM
...MARRIED TO the love of my life who challenges me everyday. JARED brings out my creative, passionate, limitless side. He forces me to stare fear in the face. His simple being teaches and INSPIRES ME to be courageous, to love, to heal. Knowing him has cultivated my belief in second chances, timing, optimism, and balance. And perhaps most significantly in my life, he has taught me how to laugh.
...A MOTHER OF two amazing children,
BO (daughter, 4) & ISAIAH (son, 2), who are filled with such light, truth, SIMPLE JOY, and unconditional love. Everyday they teach me about what life is really about. Being their mother keeps me mindful of true priorities, goals, and purpose.
...OBSESSED WITH: reading, candlelight baths, spa treatments, creme brulee, taking the perfect picture, chocolate, sunshine rain, hearing junk get sucked up into the vacuum, traveling, postcards, bubbles, memories, AMELIE, music, bridge mix, hosting parties, making stuff, collaging, frugal finds, taking a space and making it a little more beautiful, inspiration, understandings, decorating, camping, spending time with my sweet family, growth, quotes, learning new things, self-evolution, ANTHROPOLOGIE, fresh flowers, true friendships, tea cups, nostalgia, scuba diving, yummy food, dreams, experiencing as much as I can, progression, simplification, perseverance, gilmore girls, finding joy in the journey.
...STREET CREDS I have been institutionally educated by Brigham Young University in Public Relations and by The University of Utah in Business Marketing. (For all of you curious Utah rivalists, I bleed Blue).
My professional creds began about 10 or so years ago when I had the privilege of interning at a prestigious Architectural firm. I stayed in the Design/Build/ Architectural/Construction Industry for several years after as a Marketing Coordinator and consultant to industry-leading companies. In this capacity, I advised and help construe corporate images and wrote and designed proposals bidding on multi-million dollar contracts, primarily for the US government. (and happily won the majority of them:) After several years I made an industry jump to the high-tech field of web analytics with another industry-leading, Inc 500 company, Omniture. Here my main focus was again on proposal design, management, writing and execution for large companies such as UPS, FedEx, eBay, Northwest Airlines, and Expedia.com.
In 2005, I set aside the corporate ladder/rat race thing for the divinely blessed (and somehow more challenging:) role of motherhood. This has been one of the most difficult and yet most rewarding jobs I've had. Motherhood has unveiled so much creativity, genuinity, direction and capacity that I never knew existed. In this phase of my life, I have had several amazing opportunities to embrace/enhance my creative side by leisurely designing. I am now thrilled to embark on this new journey of creativity by helping women creatively express themselves through the affordable luxury of sophisticated design !
