2009-2011 Season
Brian Gendron is Artistic Director of the Alexandria Choral Society. He has taught at Virginia Tech, Hollins University, and Goodrich (MI) High School, and has served as Director of Music for churches in Michigan and Illinois.
His ensembles have presented invitational performances for the Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Music Teachers Association, and National Association of Teachers of Singing, and have collaborated with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, New River Valley Symphony Orchestra, and Kansas City Baroque Consortium.
Choirs under his direction have performed in major venues, including Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera Theater, Kennedy Center, and Washington National Cathedral. Gendron served as Chorus Master for Opera Roanoke, with credits including 'Acis and Galatea' (Handel), 'Noyes Fludde' (Britten), 'Macbeth' (Verdi), 'Otello' (Verdi), and 'Fidelio' (Beethoven). He has also prepared choruses for American Opera Theater productions of 'David et Jonathas' (Charpentier), 'Dido and Aeneas' (Purcell), 'Venus and Adonis' (Blow), and a staging of Handels 'Messiah'.
Gendron earned degrees from Central Michigan University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has presented interest sessions at conferences of the Virginia Music Educators Association and American Choral Directors Association and is active as an adjudicator, guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States.
Gendron also serves as Artistic Director of the Maryland Boy Choir.
Brussels-born pianist Danielle DeSwert Hahn is based in Washington, DC, where she has worked as a freelance pianist and coach for more than six years. As an opera repetiteur, she has worked with the Ash Lawn Highland Opera Festival, Chautauqua Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Kentucky Opera, Portland (Oregon) Opera, Sarasota Opera, the Washington National Opera, and from 2004-2006 she was the principal repetiteur with the Baltimore Opera Company and Washington Concert Opera. She was the rehearsal and performance pianist on two Western Opera Theater tours, formerly part of the San Francisco Opera Center. In the fall of 2003, Danielle did all musical preparation for a world premiere opera presented by the New Orleans Opera Association, where she worked closely with composer Thea Musgrave. She has worked with world renowned singers including mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, baritone Rod Gilfry, and soprano Elizabeth Futral, and has assisted many conductors, including Placido Domingo, Julius Rudel, Christian Badea and Patrick Summers.
In addition to her work as an opera pianist, she regularly performs in chamber music and voice recitals, partnering with members of the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra and many singers. In the Washington, D.C. area Danielle has performed at the Arts Club of Washington, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, the Kennedy Center, the Mexican Institute of Culture, the National Gallery of Art, the Russian Embassy, the Belgian Ambassador’s residence, the Finnish Embassy, and at the White House. She has been an adjunct faculty member at American University, and is principal pianist with the Inscape Chamber Music Project.
Since spring of 2006, Danielle has held the position of music program specialist at the National Gallery of Art, where she helps in programming and coordinating the concerts and musical programs. She performs with members of the resident orchestra as part of the West Garden Trio, also the resident piano trio at the National Gallery of Art.
Danielle holds a master of music degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she studied with Martin Katz, and a bachelor or music degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she worked with Paul Berkowitz and Kosta Popovic. Additionally, she studied with Warren Jones and Anne Epperson at the Music Academy of the West, and was an apprentice coach with the Washington Opera, working with Placido Domingo.

The ensemble consistently offers meaningful and exciting musical experiences to both singers and audiences through a commitment to diverse repertoire, understanding through education, community outreach, and performance excellence.
Past Artistic Directors have included Francisco de Araujo, Martin Piecuch, Robert Shafer, Douglas Major, Kerry Krebill, Keith Reas, Philip Cave, Neil Weston, and Janet Davis. Brian Gendron has served in this capacity since 2009.
The chorus' artistic excellence and contribution to its community has been generously recognized: The Alexandria Choral Society has twice received the coveted ALEX Award from the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce; the chorus receives annual grants from Alexandria Commission for the Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
