These pink poodles are from a 4 year old girl's birthday party where she and her friends learned together how to draw and paint "pink poodles and rainbows," subject matter that the birthday girl chose herself! If you have a group and you'd like a one-time art lesson, consider planning an art party at Kaleidoscope. You can choose your own theme or rely on instructor recommendations. Parties are subject to classroom and instructor availability and are often held on the weekends. Call for a party brochure: (847)381-4840. Price range $125-$220.
I enjoy creating in a variety of medias: watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, graphite, ink, and clay sculpture. Sometimes I work really small like in 5 X 7 watercolors, other times I work large, painting full wall murals in acrylic. My favorite media is chalk pastel. Although portraiture is my favorite subject matter, I find myself drawing lots of animals in my classes because children love to draw animals!
I strive to make art class a safe place, free from bullies and harsh criticism, where students have permission to make mistakes and excel at their own levels. I want students to enjoy using their minds and hands as they learn new skills and explore new tools to create masterpieces worthy of framing and deserving of praise.
When kids have fun drawing and also feel rewarded by the quality of their own work, then they will continue drawing. When kids continue drawing, their drawing gets better!
Art gives kids a sense of pride and confidence in their own abilities as well as value to their self-expression. As observation skills and creativity are nurtured, students gain artistic wisdom that will only be an asset to whatever life and career paths they choose.
