Timeless Friendship Through Sisterhood
alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established at the University of California at Berkely in the Fall of 1989 and was recognized by the College Panhellenic Association on February 7, 1990. The founding sisters - Susan Kim, Fannie Pon, Jill Yoshimura, and Reina Yuan - dedicated themselves to establishing a strong and lasting organization which would provide Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek system.
Soon after being recognized by the College Panhellenic Association the founding sisters brought together a diverse group of women who shared with them the goals of sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. These ideals were to later set the foundation for alpha Kappa Delta Phi's purpose. The love and generosity that each member had for the organization was instrumental to the growth of alpha Kappa Delta Phi's reputation as a sorority, as well as to the forging of unbreakable friendships.
The sisterhood has since then spread to prominent university campuses across the country. To meet the needs of the growing sisterhood, the National Board of alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established in May of 1993 at the National Convention in Santa Barbara, California.
Our mission is to provide sisterhood among women, while promoting scholarship, leadership and Asian awareness in the university and community. Further, to provide a support group for those in their times of need, and to encourage the making of successful women. To accomplish our mission, we will:
The purpose of this Asian-American interest sorority is to promote sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, and Asian-American awareness in the University and in the community, while encouraging the expression of the individual. The sorority is composed of highly motivated women with diverse backgrounds, interests, and fields of study. Each woman, however, shares a strong bond of love, friendship, and sisterhood. With a supportive network of sisters, each woman can strive to fulfill her personal, academic, and career goals.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA CHAPTER HISTORY
In May 2007, a diverse group of women at the University of Florida came together in an effort to initiate change in their community as well as fill a void in their own lives. Some girls sought new friends, while others looked to strengthen their current bonds. Some desired to become leaders and some simply wanted to find their niche in college. Although they had different reasons for joining, these fifteen women all agreed that their unifying goal was to form an everlasting sisterhood.
The interest group that formed soon after was known as Ignite, symbolizing the sparks of passion that motivated each member. Throughout the next year, Ignite worked diligently to bring an Asian Interest Sorority onto campus. They hosted social events with other Greek organizations, participated in service events in their Gainesville community, and enjoyed endless sisterhood events together. When it was time for Ignite to apply for a bid with their chosen sorority, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, they were ready to face any oncoming challenges.
Upon joining the sisterhood in December 2008, the University of Florida Charters envisioned their chapter as a well-rounded and highly credible sorority that promotes sisterhood, scholarship, leadership and Asian Awareness. Through alpha Kappa Delta Phi, they hoped to develop strong leaders and successful students that would be well-integrated into the Greek system as well as the Asian community on campus. Most of all, they found that they had achieved the ultimate embodiment of the element they had been searching for all along --- sisterhood.

What is Recruitment?
Recruitment week(s) is a time in which active sisters and potential members have the opportunity to become better acquainted. The activities are geared towards not only getting to know the sisters but what alpha Kappa Delta Phi represents. We simply ask you to come prepared with an open mind and heart, and to be yourself.
Is it mandatory to attend all recruitment events?
If you are serious about joining aKDPhi, you are definitely encouraged to attend all recruitment events from beginning to end. Again, this is a chance to ask questions, get to know the sisters, and for them to get to know you. The more events you participate in, the better both parties are able to determine whether this sorority fits you. We do require potential members to attend at least one informational and two events. This is to ensure that interested girls understand what aKDPhi stands for, what you can bring to the sorority, and what it can give you.
Do I have to be Asian to join?
No. We are an Asian American interest sorority that focuses on the promotion of Asian cultural awareness. We, the sisters of aKDPhi, pride ourselves on building strong and lasting friendships with girls from diverse backgrounds.
GPA Requirements
We do require that all members maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.85.
All events are FREE and rides are provided.
