During the 1980s, one band ruled the Central Connecticut Shoreline nightclub scene. Between 1981 and 1987, Champagne Jam packed popular night hotspots like The Library Lounge, Guido's, Willy J's, and Club Del Rio/Terra Mar in Old Saybrook, Frankie's in Clinton, and Ichabod's in Madison to name a few. During hot summer nights it was common to see long lines of people leading from these clubs anticipating the chance to see their favorite band and rock the night away. They also became regulars at popular Hartford nightclubs like The Russian Lady, Mad Murphy's and Sean Patrick's. Within seven years Champagne Jam played nearly 900 gigs and over 200 weddings! Booked a year in advance, Champagne Jam was always in high demand for clubs, weddings and parties. Champagne Jam consisted of the areas best musicians.
They performed a diverse range of songs from artists like Bob Segar, The Police, Santana, Doobie Bros., and more. They were a high energy band that was tight, fun, humorous, and delivered a contagious big beat that packed dance floors wherever they performed. This website is in direct response to those people who have stopped me throughout the years and fondly expressed how much the band and that time in their lives meant to them. I also hope this website will help those same people connect with the past as well as the present and the many things the past members of Champagne Jam are doing today, many of whom are still performing. Many thanks to Ken Hebert who has supplied most of the photos and music on this site. - AJS
