Purpose
The NAACP was founded in 1909 in New York City by a group of dedicated citizens committed to social justice. On February 12th, 1909, these men and women of varying ages, races, and genders, met to conceive an organization that would be an aggressive watchdog of African-American liberties. The NAACP would go onto be one of the most influential civil rights organizations in America.
As African-American college students, we are the prototype of a stronger, better next generation. We are at the forefront, fighting for the continued advance of our people. As tomorrow's professionals, we are making an impact on all areas of industry. It is the mission of the George Mason University chapter of NAACP to help college students realize and enhance not only their leadership potential, but their character as well. It is through dedication and perseverance of spirit that true character is developed. It is here, at George Mason University, that we are cultivating our talents, abilities, and ideas, becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
The purpose and aims of the George Mason University College Chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), shall be to improve the political, social, educational and economic status of minority groups; to eliminate racial prejudice; to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination, and to take all lawful action to secure its elimination
