GRANDFAMILY:
Grandparents who are the sole caregivers for their children's children. Relative (kin) caregivers include aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and other family raising a child who is not their own.
The number of grandparents raising granchildren is on the rise nationally and in Wisconsin.
The children of prisoners are often raised by grandparents or other relative caregivers.

Milwaukee's northwest side will be the home of a cutting edge affordable housing development for Grandfamilies--grandparents who are the sole caregivers for their children's children. Villard Square Grandfamily Apartments will be the first building to combine a public library and affordable housing for relative caregivers in Wisconsin. Construction began this fall on the new building at the corner of Villard Avenue and N. 35th St.
