WHO I AM.
[design statement]“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way, things I had no words for” [Georgia O’Keeffe].I define myself digitally. I create something out of nothing everyday. Being a designer consists of learning to accept yourself, your flaws, as well as following your own intuition to make your work personal and distinctive. The most innovative and impacting designs are a continuous process of simplifications and refinement. Creating art coincides with overcoming obstacles and experimenting with different materials and mediums, as well as working within budgets and time constraints.Unlike math, art gives you the opportunity to find hundreds of solutions to the same problem. It is not restricting or limiting and so it in turn becomes an outlet in which I can express myself. I like the challenge. To me, the experience and the evolution of the creation process are the most important. This is the part of the piece that represents who you are and what you feel. My personal process is different than most. I am not one to sketch thumbnails in a sketchbook initially. I will doodle on scrap paper, a corner of a napkin, placemats, or anything I can find to capture my initial ideas. Staring at the blank page of a sketchbook is intimidating to me. When you act out of fear, your fears become reality. A person viewing your portfolio can tell if your lines, shapes, and colors are hesitant. It is important to be bold and direct in your work.My ultimate goal is to work for a company that is successful, with strong values, that will challenge me to learn and grow everyday. I am looking for an environment that lets me shine. A place where hierarchy and bureaucracy don’t exist. A place where I am encouraged to speak my mind and share ideas, and would not be reprimanded when standing up for what I believe in. I want to work at a place where everyone’s energy is focused on innovation and creativity with no corporate politics. I am a quick learner, I am resourceful, I possess the willingness to learn, and the drive and dedication to be successful. Wherever I am lacking, I make up for it in discipline. I guarantee I will never be outworked. I am passionate about everything I attempt, because I believe it is a reflection of the person I am.
