Ty Heffner and Susan McNeney each have14 years experience working as archaeological consultants throughout the provinces of Alberta, B.C. and the Yukon and opened the Matrix office in Quesnel in 2002. Since this time the company has expanded to include an office in Whitehorse.
One of their main goals was to become a community-oriented company. As the company continues to grow, it does so with a strong ethic toward sustainability and professionalism focused on giving back to the communities they work and live in. They are deeply committed to providing exceptional service to clients, encouraging and developing career goals of their staff, and integrating advancements in technology into every aspect of their work. A few examples of their innovative approach include:
Matrix has been collecting lithic samples and conducting geochemical analysis on lithic artifacts for the past 5 years in order to compile a GIS database that can be applied to predictive modelling and research into site distribution and trade networks.
Matrix has conducted extensive archival research into historic and traditional trails and has successfully compiled this information into a GIS database that enhances the management of these important heritage resources.
Matrix has recently updated and revised a GIS Model of Archaeological Potential using an innovative GIS archaeological data inventory and archaeological data gap analysis. Our GIS archaeological data inventory provides planners and First Nations with an essential tool that centralizes previous archaeological survey data
Matrix has conducted homologation mapping of proposed ski runs at Whistler and Mt. Washington on behalf of Alpine Canada for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Matrix conducts annual workshops for high school students to introduce them to archaeological studies and the role of impact assessments in forestry and has trained numerous First Nations and forestry workers in cultural heritage resource identification. We have also volunteered countless hours to promote cultural heritage awareness and preservation.
Matrix has conducted Archaeological Impact Assessments for forestry, highways, First Nations, private land owners, subdivisions, hydroelectric and mining companies in B.C. and the Yukon.
