Join the Global Call to ActionPeaceJam has a 10 year campaign to address 10 of the most pressing issues of our time and we need your help! Any person can join PeaceJams Global Call to Action and create a project to positively impact their community or the world. Create or Join a PeaceJam ClubPeaceJam Clubs are officially registered groups of youth who have an Adult Advisor, study the PeaceJam curriculum appropriate for their age level, and complete at least one Global Call to Action Project. PeaceJam Groups consist of a minimum of three youth and one adult. This is the best way to get access to all of the resources PeaceJam has to offer! Check out the How to Create A PeaceJam Club page for more info. Act as the Adult Advisor for a PeaceJam ClubBeing an Advisor of a PeaceJam Club is easy and rewarding! As the Adult Advisor of a PeaceJam Program, you have an amazing opportunity to:•connect and work with youth on a dynamic and interactive curriculum,Gain facilitation skills,Network with a diverse group of adults and connect with community organizations,Attend the PeaceJam Youth Conference and other PeaceJam EventsPeaceJam Advisors are asked to donate their time in the following ways:One six hour training session offered at various times to meet your needs, or an online training where available.A minimum of one 90 minute PeaceJam Club meeting per week (school year or year round) during which you facilitate with youth the exploration of the PeaceJam curriculum and the creation and implementation of a Global Call to Action project. Peace Education

The PeaceJam provides five curricular programs that explore the stories of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates and the ways they overcame problems in their communities. Youth study the personal experiences of these amazing world leaders and then engage in service-learning activities that address local needs.All the PeaceJam programs are flexible to be used in an academic or non-academic setting as an after-school club, community or faith-based group, integrated into core curriculum and electives, or used as a school-wide or district-wide program.PeaceJam programs combine 1) standards based literacy, civics, and geography content, 2) leadership development, 3) service-learning, 4) conflict resolution5) character development.PeaceJams curricula are standards-based and designed to stimulate youths' critical thinking skills, strengthen their research skills, increase their conflict resolution and leadership skills, and promote reflection and action. The programs are Juniors, Leaders, Ambassadors, Scholars and Juvenile Justice.PeaceJam Juniors Curriculum is an exciting program for ages 5 to 11 that introduces young students to the lives and work of Nobel Peace Laureates in an age-appropriate, standards-based format. It is designed as a stand-alone curricular unit or as a complement to existing curricula or programs such as Character Education, Conflict Resolution, Service-Learning, Citizenship and Multicultural Education.The PeaceJam Juniors Curriculum explores the childhood stories of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates and the character traits they embody. Students study the personal experiences of these amazing world leaders and then engage in service-learning projects that address needs in their local community. As a result, students gain academic and social skill including leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving and character development.The PeaceJam Leaders Curriculum is a standards-based curriculum for young people between the ages of 11 and 14. It explores the adolescent stories of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates and the strategies they used to overcome problems in their lives and their communities. Through this age-appropriate curriculum, youth explore their own identities and reexamine the choices they make including their role models and the peer groups to which they belong. Youth also develop leadership and problem-solving skills while engaging in service-learning activities that address local needs.The PeaceJam Ambassadors Curriculum is designed for youth ages 14-19 and explores issues related to peace, violence, social justice, and oppression. Youth study the lives and work of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates and the strategies they use to address pressing global issues. Participating youth create and implement their own Global Call to Action Projects, becoming creative leaders who are committed to solving the most difficult problems facing our world. The program also includes an annual PeaceJam Youth Conference where youth spend a weekend with a Nobel Peace Laureate giving them an unprecedented opportunity to share with, learn from, and be inspired by a world leader for peace.The PeaceJam Scholars Curriculum is a college-level program where college students serve as mentors for the youth at PeaceJam Conferences, support local PeaceJam groups, and study international issues connected to the work of the Nobel Peace Laureates. This program allows college students to engage in service and research that extends into their communities.The PeaceJam Juvenile Justice Curriculum is designed for incarcerated youth and youth recently released from the juvenile justice system. This curriculum addresses issues of gangs, drugs and alcohol, domestic violence, property theft, and other risky behaviors. Participants develop skills in the areas of civic responsibility, reconciliation and leadership while being challenged to rewrite their life stories, reevaluate their role models and learn the power of peace.

Perhaps it is the thought of all of the things that bring about happiness in this world, or perhaps the thought of all of the things that bring about suffering.We're looking for the something that lights a fire in your heart, fills you up, makes you think, and moves you to take action. Whatever it is for you, PeaceJam calls it inspiration. For us inspiration comes from the participating Nobel Peace Laureates, and of course, from you! Use this section of the site to Get Inspired! Connect with other PeaceJammers from around the world through the PeaceJam Message Board, where the real conversations are going on. Then meet up at a PeaceJam event, cause we want to see you! Make sure to watch the calendar so you don't miss out on the fun!The Nobel Peace LaureatesThe PeaceJam Foundation is the only organization in the world with so many Nobel Peace Laureates actively involved in and working for one common purpose - the empowerment of our youth. Each of these Nobel Laureates, many facing great personal risk, have taken a profound and powerful step toward creating a more peaceful and just society. What is equally profound is that their achievements are not beyond the reach of the "average" person. Each of them hold an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience and believe deeply that each person has the power within them to create positive change. For this reason, the Nobel Peace Laureates are a primary source of inspiration in the PeaceJam Program. PeaceJam Youth ConferencesDid you ever want to meet a Nobel Peace Prize Winner? The PeaceJam Youth Conferences are open to youth ages 14-18 who are actively involved in the PeaceJam Ambassadors program and take place annually in many of our Affiliate Regions throughout the world. There are three types of PeaceJam conferences that are part of the PeaceJam Ambassadors program:The Jam: This is NOT your average youth conference! The Jam is your opportunity to meet and work directly with a Nobel Peace Laureate as well as 200-500 other youth who are interested in creating change in themselves, their communities, and the world. If you come to a Jam, you are in for an extraordinary two days full of inspiration, connection, skill building, service, teamwork, creativity and fun!The Slam: This one-day conference is both a follow-up to the Jam for active PeaceJam Ambassadors, and and the kick off of a new PeaceJam season for youth who are new to the PeaceJam Ambassadors program. The purpose of this conference is to report in on all of the great work that has taken place since the Jam as well as to dig deeper into a specific Global Call to Action Issue area. The conference focuses on building skills that will help you to become peacemakers and leaders in their own communities. The structure of these events vary by region - contact your local PeaceJam Affiliate or Chapter for information on the Slam in your area.

PeaceJams Global Call to Action is an international movement of young people who have decided to work together to solve the most pressing issues of our time. In small groups and clubs, in cities and in villages, Global Call to Action groups are tackling important problems facing our planet and we are making a difference.A Global Call to ActionThe Call to Action comes from a group of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, men and women who have dedicated their lives to working for peace, equality, justice and a better world. These international leaders have identified ten problems that are at the root of much of the worlds suffering. Now they are asking young people to lead the way by taking action to solve these problems.Over the next ten years PeaceJam, with the support of the Nobel Peace Laureates, aims to engage young people on a massive level, working toward the creation of ONE BILLION acts of service and peace. In order to achieve this, the Global Call to Action movement extends far beyond youth and the PeaceJam Foundation itself any group of motivated individuals from any organization, age level, and walk of life can take part. PeaceJams Global Call to Action doesnt ask people to simply identify problems or to spread awareness of the issues. The Global Call to Action is about just that ACTION.Join PeaceJam and the Global Call to ActionThe Global Call to Action, though led by youth and Nobel Peace Laureates, is open to everyone and were inviting you to become a part of this movement for change. The courageous young people on this site are leading the way, showing you how to begin.Equal Access to Water and Other Natural ResourcesThe lack of access to clean water and arable land is an increasing problem for many people around the world and the struggle over these limited resources provides fuel for war and conflict, especially in those parts of the world where the population is exploding. We must work to ensure access to at least the most basic of natural resources, such as safe drinking water, for all.Ending Racism and HateRacism and the growing divide between rich and poor are endemic, and it is a problem that affects all of us. There are two societies in most countries one which is a reflection of the media image of prosperity, and one that is hidden and full of suffering. This is creating a tremendous time bomb, ready to go off at any moment, and making it easier for demagogues to fuel hate and to rule by fear.Halting the Spread of Global DiseaseOne of the effects of globalization is the spread of disease, and the potential for devastating new diseases to ravage humanity. National boundaries no longer mean what they once did. The rapid movement of people and goods means that many third world diseases are now threatening the developed world, and have now become the problem of everyone. We must address these diseases together, as one human family.Eliminating Extreme PovertyOur world cannot be secure when so many billions of people are forced to exist on less than $1 per day, without access to even the most basic levels of shelter, sustenance, or education. Extreme poverty can be eliminated in our lifetimes, and this must remain a fundamental goal.Social Justice and Human Rights for AllThe lack of basic human rights and civil liberties, and the persistence of social injustice over long periods of time with no hope or plan for progress or change, always creates a backlash. To try to impose a military solution without addressing the fundamental issues at the core of a society will only feed the growth of paramilitary groups, violence, and lack of security in that society.Rights for Women and Children, and their Role as LeadersIt is essential to bring an end to the exploitation of children, and to defend the basic human rights of women around the world. This includes the right to a decent education. The role of women and youth as leaders in local communities, in developing creative solutions to problems, must be fostered and encouraged.Restoring Earth's EnvironmentThe earth is our mother, and it is wounded. It is out of balance and needs to be healed. Global warming is a reality, and only by a concentrated effort involving individual citizens, civil society, and our government leaders can we address the many causes for the precarious situation we have created for ourselves here on earth. Controlling the Proliferation of WeaponsIt is incomprehensible that the world still wastes nearly a trillion dollars each year on the weapons of war. We must change our values and our priorities as we enter the 21st century. We must end the ever-increasing spiral of expenditures on arms, both nuclear and conventional, which only serves to increase the likelihood of violent conflict. Investing in Human SecurityIn order to create increased security in this new world in which we live, we must focus on the issue of human security. When we ensure that basic human needs are met, we are creating a more secure world. When we work for social justice, or to stop global warming, or to provide decent education, or to end racism, we are creating a more secure world. The time has come to shift our energy and our resources from military security to a long-term investment in true human security.Breaking the Cycle of ViolenceOne of the first things that we must do is to dismantle our own armed consciousness because we are children of a culture of violence, and our minds have been armed. Peace is the grand revolution that humanity has been waiting for. What is required is a profound understanding of the new realities created by our increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

The Leadership and Advisory council for all youths

Goal of Youth Advisory CouncilCommenting on legislation and policies that impact youth; Presenting methods to resolve youth-related conflicts between youth and between youth and adults; Proposing recommendations to improve the lives of youth; Monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of youth programs and policies; Partnering with neighborhood and youth organizations on shared issues; and Preparing youth for leadership through appropriate training. Members of the YAC have a background in community-based activities with a sincere interest in and motivation to work for the community. As youth leaders, they bring real and fresh perspectives about youth issues, and act as effective communicators between the District and their home communities.The YAC meets twice a month and publishes a yearly report, to be publicly distributed, of its activities, recommendations and accomplishments.
