SED CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
The following teachers use this Classroom Management Plan in order to provide consistency for our students.
MRS. GIBSON and MR. DONAHUE
The Special Education department will adhere to the 2009 - 2020 Student Discipline Policy and Procedures Handbook as set forth by the Decatur Public Schools district No. 61 Board of Education. In addition, the following Classroom rules are specific to the classrooms mentioned above. The Goals and Objectives to SED Classroom Management Plan are Individual to each student as stated in each students IEP.
1. Come prepared for class every day with book, pencil/pen, paper and completed homework.
2. Come in quietly and take a seat BEFORE the tardy bell begins to ring to avoid being counted tardy.
3. Follow directions immediately without arguing.
4. Keep you HANDS, FEET AND OBJECTS to yourself at all times.
5. Turn in homework when it is due.
6. If a student is absent, he/she needs to ask the teacher within 1 full school day for make-up work after returning to school. Twenty-four hours is allowed for each day of absence (if absent 2 days, there will be 48 hours allowed for make-up assignments to be turned in).
7. NO TOBACCO, GUM, HATS, COATS OR SCHOOL BAGS ALLOWED IN CLASSROOMS.
8. All students on escort/supervision are expected to comply with rules set forth by IEP and the person escorting them.
The SED Behavior Management Plan is based on a behavior point system whereas students may earn or lose points for emitting appropriate or inappropriate classroom behaviors. The management system is set up to follow the steps described below.
They are:
1. The student will receive a warning from teacher or assistant.
2. The student will be notified of loss of behavior point.
3. The student will be asked to have a conference with teacher in hallway/private.
4. The student will be asked to go to the EAR area in classroom or STRESS REDUCTION area in Social Workers Office.
5. Parent may be notified about the students behavior by a phone call when possible or letter when deemed necessary by staff.
6. The student will be referred to the Dean or building Administrator in extreme cases of physical assault and verbal abuse/threatening of teacher or assistant.
TEACHER DETENTIONS- MUST be served on the day of, or the following school day after they are assigned. Detentions will be served before or after school or during lunchtime according to the teachers discretion. Detention time will be DOUBLED if not served when assigned. If detentions are not served in a timely manner, as mentioned above, and accumulate to 8, a full day of EAR will be issued. If EAR is not served appropriately a discipline referral will be sent to the Deans office for further action.
CRISIS PREVENTION INSTITUTE (CPI) restraint techniques will be used when a student is a physical threat to themselves or other (students or staff).

Educational Background:
•This is my 17th year teaching at EHS. I was a teaching assistant here 7 years before I started teaching.

o1972 Graduated from MacArthur High School
o1976- Graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a BS in Education Endorsements in Special Education
o2004- Graduated from Walden University with a MS in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
oI have also accumulated 32 additional graduate hours

Personal Background:
•Married my high school sweet heart in 1976 and have 2 children- Christopher and Jaime
•Have a 2 1/2 year old grandson
•Hobbies: Reading, taking long vigorous walks, sewing, quilting, knitting, playing Thomas the Train with my grandson, making frequent trips to Chicago to visit my daughter and explore the Windy City
