general info: My love of clay began some twenty plus years ago. The self-taught process of crafting ceramics continues. the work you see here is a result of my ongoing lessons in technique, engineeering, form and function. the possibilities are through the ceiling!I leave the planet when my hands are full of clay and i wouldn't know what i would do if i couldn'tconnect on some level with clay... not to mention all the free therapy.... priceless!!

technique:
mOST OF MY PIECES ARE CONSTRUCTED BY either a METHOD CALLED 'SLAB BUILDING'. cLAY ROLLED INTO FLAT SHEETS OF CLAY, MEASURED, THEN CUT ACCORDING TO my DESIGN layout, clay pieces placed together BY SCORING ENDS OR SIDES AND JOINING THE PIECES WITH A WATER/ CLAY SLURRY, WHICH ACTS LIKE an adhesive, SECURING THE PIECES in place, occasionally Slender COILS will be added, PLACED IN INSIDE SEAMS THEN SMOOTHED TO further RE-INFORCE AND STRENGHTEN construction. or, i USE WHAT is REFERED TO AS 'COILING". this ancient METHOD requires the use of SMALL ROPES OF CLAY FORMED BY ROLLING A SMALL ball Or piece of CLAY IN THE PALMS, or against a flat surface, producing uniform cords WHICH are then USED by stacking and smoothing to form utility vessles. aLL METHODS applied to my pieces are methods of "HAND BUILding".
