Vintage Chic Furniture - Troy NY
On Sunday I visited Vintage Chic Furniture, a new shop in Troy's Antiques District. Donna, the store's owner, opened the store on River Street about one month ago after moving to the area from Long Island. She specializes in restoring old furniture, creating custom pillows, cushions, duvet covers, and doing some upholstering. I was instantly drawn to the whites and neutral tones that dominate the cheery, light-filled store. The shop also offers some vintage and antique housewares.
Before opening Vintage Chic Furniture in Troy, Donna operated the store on Long Island. She will restore or custom paint any piece of furniture, or you can choose from the shop's over seventy unfinished items to be created especially for your home.

Q What exactly do you do at your business?
A It's very green, environmentally-friendly business since I give new life to old furniture which might otherwise be thrown away. I re-design and renew furniturI even do decorations like pillows. I put pom-pom fringes on a pillow in a recent project. I love to transform rooms for little girls and college students. I'm self-taught too.
Q Why did you start the business?
A I did a few furniture pieces for myself and my friends said they were really good. I started working out of my garage then I got a shop in Long Island. Now, I have my own store in Troy and I have a website.
Q Why did you move to the area?
A My fiance got a job with General Electric. I really love Troy, though. It's the cutest, quaintest city in the area.
Q What kind of job did you have before this one?
A I was in sales my whole life. I sold granite and marble tops in the Hamptons. I worked with kitchen designs. I got to see some amazing mansions in the Northeast. I also did some coin brokering.
Q If you could be a piece of furniture, what would you be?
A A big, lovely, scrolly buffet like the one in my showroom.
