Semantic Web Integration by John Hebeler (co-author of Semantic Web Programming)
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 5:00 PM in Stephens Hall 216
Did you ever wish that you would be able to obtain information on the web that is specifically relevant to you? Wouldnt it be great if you would be able to find out what your friends were doing on a Friday night right as you were wondering what your plans should be? Luckily this is the direction that the web is headed. Semantic Web Integration is the future of the web, and is also referred to as Web 3.0. This past week John Hebeler, co-author of Semantic Web Programming was able to speak on such a topic. He explained the foundation of the Semantic Web, as well as the three main components: subject, predicate, and object. Once the Semantic Web is in full swing it will be able to identify all of these three components and make sense of them relevant to your needs. The Semantic Web will create a knowledge base and will be able to make an analysis. This will allow the web to place a structure on top of content by using an algorithm. This will ultimately allow individuals to better connect with one another and will change the way that we are all currently using the web allowing us to connect on a whole different level. Some glimpses of the Semantic Web are: Semantic Media Wiki, Twine, Linked Data, Ontology Online, and Dbpedia just to name a few. These are a few that are currently out there and known, while plenty of companies are in the development stages and are planning on unleashing the Semantic Web as their secret weapon. Feel free to check out these few that I mentioned and look out for the future of the web. Just remember that I gave you the heads up about it!
