Local and Community Outreach
EWB-USA, Virginia Tech Chapter
Helping Our Local Community
Engineers Without Borders at Virginia Tech recognizes that although our international projects are substantial to our organization--local projects are just as important. We consistently participate in Habitat For Humanity, as well as local K-12 outreach to help get kids interested in engineering, and sevice work.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
K-12 Outreach
As part of our initiative to serve the community, we work with local public schools each semester to educate the next generation of engineers on international issues. Our program began in 2004 as our chapter's first service project. Engineering students visited Blacksburg High School to mentor students of all academic levels in a McGyver-style group project.
Habitat for Humanity
In the fall of 2008, some of the members of EWB at Virginia Tech participated in a Habitat for Humanity house. The work ranged from yardwork to installing insulation to pouring concrete and everything inbetween! Not only was this a great way for the members of EWB to do a little team-building, but it was a great opportunity to do something for our local community here in Blacksburg.

MORE TO KNOW
Welcome to the Virginia Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders--USA. We are a service organization that works to connect engineers with communities that need our help, all over the world.
Our mission is to partner with disadvantaged areas to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally, equitably, and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally
responsible engineers and engineering students through education, encouragement, and experience.
We engage in international projects, local service projects, and community outreach. You, too, can be a part of that.
Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings every other Tuesday of each month. You can find out more on the pages of this website and join our listserv by e-mailing ewb_vt.edu.
