During Engineering Expo, CDM hosted a "toss a chip" program at their booth and raised $231.50 for EWB-VT.

Don't miss tomorrow's meeting with Professor John Boyer. It's guaranteed to be a great lecture and an awesome opportunity to hear John Boyer speak if you don't (or do) have his class. Meeting is at 7 pm, Holden Auditorium.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 22, at 7pm in Holden Auditorium. Professor John Boyer will be speaking about the importance of global awareness in engineering. This is something you DO NOT want to miss! Also, don't forget to contact us if you're interested in helping out with the fundraiser tomorrow!

Thank you to everyone that came out to our first meeting! We had a great showing and are really excited about the upcoming year. If you missed the meeting, check out the "Meetings" page for the informational presentation we showed and see how you can get involved. There's also a calendar of events under "Meetings," it has all of our meeting dates and times, as well as special events. If you'd like to help out with our upcoming fundraiser on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 it is a bake sale from 9pm-2am outside of Sharkey's downtown. We need people to both bake and sell. Use the "contact us" page if you'd like to help out.

ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
HISTORY
The Virginia Tech chapter of EWB-USA was founded in the spring of 2004 by Katie Langley, a Mechanical Engineering senior, and Edward Jones, an Electrical Engineering freshman, with Michael Gregg as their faculty advisor. The students began working with EWB-USA and the Virginia Tech College of Engineering to make the chapter official, but did not complete the process until fall 2005. In the meantime, the club began working with Blacksburg High School in the K-12 outreach program.
In fall 2005, the chapter began working with Dr. Theo Dillaha of the Biological Systems Engineering Department (and OIRED's SANREM CRSP) on their first international project in Veron, Dominican Republic. Check out the DR project page for more information. Since that time, the chapter has taken on two new projects and continued its community outreach work, attracting new members each semester.
In 2007, several of the EWB-VT sponsors created the Friends of Engineers Without Borders, a group of private companies that seeks funding and helps to advise the chapter. The chapter constitution was also written at this time with a newly designed executive board of student officers.
The Virginia Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA partners with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through implementation of environmentally, equitable, and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineers and engineering students through education, encouragement, and experience.

EWB-VT has an account with the Virginia Tech Foundation, which is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax exempt corporation. Donations made to this account are tax deductible and can be made electronically or by mail to the chapter's general fund or to an individual project. Money donated to the chapter's general fund allows the chapter to disburse funds to individual project accounts as needed.

Friends of EWB at Virginia Tech
Friends of EWB-USA-Virginia Tech is a loosely-structured group of financial supporters providing assistance in the international project endeavors of the Virginia Tech Chapter. Their funds are used to subsidize costs for travel, material, and equipment. All donations made are 501 (c) (3) tax-deductible.
The following contribution levels have been established:

Membership in EWB
EWB welcomes all majors to be members in our organization. There are no dues in EWB, just have to sign up for membership with EWB-USA once a year (free!). We're always looking for globally-minded people who can contribute to our organization.
Participation is on a points system (see table). The more you put into EWB, the more you will get out of EWB. You earn points by participating in different activities. The members with the most points at the end of the semester will have a chance to attend our Regional and National conferences.

Welcome to the Virginia Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders--USA. We are a service organization that works to connect engineers with communities that need our help, all over the world.
Our mission is to partner with disadvantaged areas to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally, equitably, and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally
responsible engineers and engineering students through education, encouragement, and experience.
We engage in international projects, local service projects, and community outreach. You, too, can be a part of that.
