Tim Redding was eager to end the Mets losing streak and he wanted to do it fast.
Redding pitched into the eighth inning Saturday and the Mets stopped their six-game slide with a 3-2 victory against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
Redding (3-6) threw first-pitch strikes to 19 of his 26 batters in a game that took only 2 hours 18 minutes.
Theres a couple good football games that started about 25 minutes ago, Redding said.
Redding outpitched John Lannan, who had tossed two complete games, including a shutout, against the Mets this season.

The White Sox are giving Tyler Flowers, their touted catcher of the future, as much work as possible while he awaits his first starting catching assignment.
"I'm just trying to get comfortable and stay in shape to be ready whenever it is," said Flowers, who batted .297 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs in 108 games at Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham.
