Thanks for stopping by to witness this astounding discovery.
The Black Hills, in South Dakota, is said to be 2.5 - 3.5 billion years old.
Whatever those numbers truly represent in time of age or distances around the sun, that makes this place likely to be the oldest surviving part of the original Earth.
When you look at the Black Hills from sattelite viewers, you will see that it is actually the remains of an ancient island, minus the ocean.
Native peoples have inhabited this area for many thousands of years. European men have been here since the 1800's or somewhat earlier.
In our modern times, millions of people from all over the world visit the Black Hills every year.
Most come to see Mt. Rushmore or the Crazy Horse Carving or ride the 1880's train. Many come to Deadwood to partake in the "old west" experience. Many also come here just to ride the scene and see the most incredible sights, among many other reasons and attractions. No matter what brings you here, there is a feeling you will get about the place. It's that one feeling. The "spirit of the hills". If you have been here before, you have felt it. There is something else about it, that sacred something, and part of you knows what it is but the rest is left to wonder...

These photos were taken in March and April of 2007 near Mount Rushmore.
They are in an easily accessable area
and clearly show very large "chunks" of petrified trees.
However, as you shall see, they get
much bigger!
