Privacy
We reserve the right to publish your name, your photograph or
its likeness on the website. We will not release your personal information to any 3rd parties without your expressed, written consent.
Harassment and Assault
Harassment is generally any behaviour that intentionally
annoys or alarms another person or group. This includes unwanted physical contact, following someone around a public area without legitimate reason, or threatening to physically attack someone. Please remember that if you approach someone and they tell you no or to leave them alone, your business with them is done. If you do not leave them alone as they have requested, it becomes grounds for complaint of harassment.
If you have been or feel you have been harassed, or if you
have been assaulted, please report the matter immediately to show services (Staff or Security) or one of the show executives. Repeat offenders may be asked to hand over their badges and may be asked to leave the show areas. If you have been accused of harassment and feel that it was unjustified, you may appeal to one of the show executives, but their decision is final.
Drinking and Smoking
The Kootenay Anime Show is an alcohol-free event. If you are found intoxicated in show areas and/or you are being disorderly, you may be barred from entering show areas. Please note that the legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19 (nineteen)
years of age.
Provincial law does not allow smoking in public indoor places. KAB prohibits smoking in all indoor areas of show buildings, including restaurants and all covered parking areas. KAB restricts smoking to outdoor locations away from fresh air intakes and areas where smoke could be drawn into buildings such as open doorways. Please note that you should be at least 10 feet away from all entrances and air intakes as per law. Please abide by any posted signs regarding smoking.
Stamps
Stamps are required for admittance into show spaces. Failure to display your stamp will bar you from entering the show spaces.
Animals
Animals are not allowed into show spaces with the exceptions
of seeing-eye-dogs and personal assistance animals.
Costumes
KAB Staff reserves the right to deem a costume unacceptable and request the wearer make modifications as necessary. The Kootenay Anime Show is a family-friendly event, and as such, all costumes should abide by common rules of decency. Please be considerate. Footwear is required in all public areas.
Photography
Unless otherwise posted, photography is allowed at all events during the show; however, during any event at the show, flash photography is not permitted. Please note that some panels or events may prohibit usage of video cameras or photography and you are required to abide by said policies.
Weapons
Please refrain from bringing metal or replica weapons. If you have a prop weapon, it must NOT be coloured black. If we cannot discern whether or not a weapon is real from ten feet away, do not bring it.

Please refrain from displaying signs offering goods or services. If you wish to have a sign, please contact Show Services and have them approve the sign. Glomp me signs are no longer permitted at the shows, no exceptions. If your are seen with a glomp me or similar sign, security reserves the right to confiscate it.
Autographs
Please get an autograph during designated autograph sessions and bring only one item to be autographed to allow as many attendees as possible to get an autograph. You must have a legitimate item to be autographed (i.e. non-pirated).
Guests
Please respect the guests personal space. Harassment of guests is grounds for removal from show spaces and security may be called.
Weapons Policy
General Information
There shall not be any props made out of large pieces of glass or ceramics due to the risk of breaking then becoming sharp objects. There shall be no all-metal objects, or heavily metal-wrapped objects (tinfoil is acceptable but no thicker). As long as they are not heavy, tipped, and/or bladed, they are fine. This means no kunais or shurikens made of metal, but paper mache or wood ok. Please avoid replicas of pure black colour, painted or otherwise. We understand and appreciate the pursuit of realism and authenticity, but not at the cost of safety. If we CANNOT discern whether or not a prop is real from ten feet away, do NOT bring it. If any of the prohibited items were brought to the show, you can either store it off show grounds or they will be confiscated by Show Staff and you can reclaim the item at the end of the day. Additionally, brandishing any item, peace-bonded or otherwise, in any manner that constitutes as
a weapon will be given a warning. Initial offence will be given a warning. Repeat offenders may be asked to hand over their badges and or may be asked to leave the show grounds.
Special Agents may also pull a badge when it is necessary to ensure the safety and the integrity of the show. If you have
been accused and feel that it was unjustified, you may appeal the case with the Chief Of Staff, Director, or Deputy Director. However, their decision is final. At any point during the show, if you do NOT feel safe, please approach Show Staff immediately. Do NOT attempt to defuse a situation yourself; please advise Show Staff and remain with the Staff until you have been relieved.
Peace-bonding
Any props and weapons that require peace-bonding, will be handled through Show Staff, and items are subject to the
peace-bonders discretion (I.e. if they warrant a snowboard to be peace-bonded, they will peace-bond the snowboard). If a peace-bond has been removed on purpose, they will be given one warning, before confiscation occurs. If it was accidental, please notify Show Staff so that it can be re-peace-bonded as soon as possible.
Gun Replicas
Guns should be coloured in anything other than black, dark
blue, dark grey, or brown. The area at the muzzle has to be painted in neon orange. If you are unable to find the tips to reattach to the gun, you may need to find a replacement with a tip, or find a way to have the barrel blocked. As long as it is NOT easy to remove the block and a reasonable attempt is made, then is it fine. The gun also cannot be loaded. The peace-bond usually is placed on the handle or the trigger
guard, so the item can still be used in cosplay without looking
put of place in pictures. However this means Convention Staff and location Security might not be able to clearly spot the peace-bond at a distance, which is why that orange tip at the end of the barrel is necessary, so even if the peace bond cant
be seen that it is clear from a distance that the item is just a prop.
Other Projectile Replicas
•Bows are allowed, and you can leave the strings in them. But one end of the string must come loose easily. If you are found putting an arrow in them AND pulling the string, you will be ejected from the show. Even when posing for photographs. Its a safety issue in case it slips.
•Nerf guns must be unloaded at all times while in the show. For any contest or skits, all ammo must be turned over to the coordinator before and after use on stage, and will be returned after the event is over.
Explosive Replicas
All explosive replicas must comply with the colour restrictions. We would rather not have these at the convention at all since
the majority of these devices will cause a large portion of
people to be evacuated, but we do realize that they may be part of a cosplay costume. DO NOT bring any decommissioned explosives as they cannot be differentiated from real explosives. If you feel compelled to bring this particular type of prop, to
bring one made of a non-metal substance with large blaze orange lettering on all sides saying PROP or FAKE. The less realistic the better. We do not want the RCMP with the bomb squad to show up. As such, Pipe bombs are prohibited and will be turned over to the proper authorities when found.
Sword Replicas
No live metal swords, PERIOD. This means no real katanas, knives, kodachis, wakizashis, no blunt metal swords/knives etc. Wooden swords like bo-kens & shinais are fine. It does not matter if they are in a sheath or not, metal swords are NOT allowed.
Specific Rulings
•Chains are for ornamental use only, as long as they are secured at both ends and weigh less than 2.2 lbs or 1kg. If it is a part of a prop, it must also be peace-bonded. Ensembles such as, but not limited to, collars with chains, cuff with chains, and other similar pieces where the chain can be loose and grabbed by a third party are prohibited.
•Yoai Paddles are frowned upon. We would prefer not to see this particular prop all together. However, if you are to bring one, it must be peacebonded and you will be warned not to use it in a threatening manner. Any individual whom does use the paddle in a threatening manner will have the paddle
confiscated, and will be issued a warning. On the second offence, the individual will be banned from the show. Posing is fine, but do NOT use it against another person.
•Since we are indoors, rollers blades, scooters, and skateboards are for ornamental and posing only. Any one found wearing and/or using them on show grounds will be issued a warning. Repeated offenders will have their item confiscated and may be asked to leave the show.
Outside of the Show
As we will be sharing the Show Location, the various
spaces, we undoubtedly will run into other people in the community. We would like to remind attendees to be aware of their surroundings and be courteous to other guests. If your costume is particularly exposing, please have a jacket or a cloak ready. If you have a particularly impressive prop, a towel or a bag might be a good idea before some frightened guests alert Show Staff or the local authorities.
Special Guests
None as of yet.
Contests
Contests are what brings the community together in the competitive spirits. Here are a list of contests happening at the Kootenay Anime Show, some of which that you will need to register in advance. Please check back here often to see an updated list of contests and contest rules.
