Excerpt from an interview with inside out magazine:
Can you give a brief summary of your journey to photography? (Education, challenges, people you've met, what has happened that is significant).
My photography journey haha, well I started taking photos when I was in a band, I would take photos of the bands we would perform with and then bands started to ask me to do it, after seeing my photos. Then I thought hey, maybe I can do this. Then I found my self, walking around just taking pictures of things.
After high school I went to the art institute of Philadelphia for four years where I got my Bachelors in Photography. I graduated from there in June of 2007. During my last quarter of school I interned with George Holz, and after graduation I worked for him for a while. I have also assisted for a few photographers around NYC. Right now I am concentrating on doing my own thing, and getting my work out there for everyone to see.
I have had the opportunity to work with some great photographers, and that has taught me so much. I have also met some great people in general along the way, that being models, hair stylist, makeup artist and designers, and so many of them have become some of my best friends. Its wonderful to work with people you really like.
I feel like this is just the beginning of my journey as a photographer, and I really hope the future brings bigger and more exciting things.
I see some clear recurring themes in colors, textures and styles. What are your aims? What's your inspiration and thought process?
I really love to use color in my photos, and sometimes lack there of. I get inspired by a lot of things. Sometimes I will be walking or driving around and I will see something such as a building or a field, or any cool space and it will spark an idea. Also random things, everyday things, inspire me. And I defiantly draw inspiration from designers collections, movies, and Art. Its usually one little thing that sparks an entire idea for a shoot.
excerpt from an interview with sgb's:
how long have you been a photographer?: well I started taking pictures about 9 years ago, but I don't think I could say that for all of those years I was a photographer, but it happened somewhere along the way.
who and/or what do you most like to shoot?: people are what i like to shoot the most. i love shooting fashion stories, conceptual pieces, as well as interesting spaces. usually the spaces i find interesting are the ones that most people would just pass on by, but if you look hard enough sometimes you can find something really brilliant. and my favorite thing to do is to mix all three.
