No negatives, just positives!
I'm often asked if I miss shooting with film. In a word... No!
My first job in photography was Photo Editor at the Sun Advocate in Price, Utah. It was a great job where I learned many valuable lessons that have helped me throughout my career. I learned that most problems have solutions. I learned about how light changes greatly over the course of a day. I also learned that processing film in the darkroom stinks!
While studying design at BYU I worked for the University Photographer and I took on the occasional free lance job. My first commercial assignment was for Stephen Covey. I learned something from Mr. Covey. Enthusiasm can be contagious!
After graduation, I moved to Oregon where I spent 3 years photographing housewares and working in the fashion studio at Meier & Frank Co. in Portland. This is where I got a solid foundation in studio photography.
I opened my first studio in Salem in 1987 and soon had clients in construction, manufacturing, health care, and government. With such a diverse group of customers I learned to work quickly both in the studio and on location.
In 2008, Pheromone, was published, a fine art photography book about insects. Recently, a selection of those photographs published in Audoban Magazine won an 'Ozzie' award for Best Magazine Photography. Currently, I have several exciting projects I am working on including aerial photography of the Oregon Coast.
I love making photographs now as much as ever! Afterall, there are no negatives, just positives!
