Monthly meetings of the XYZ
(eXtra Years with Zest)
Monthly meetings are held the Third Thursday in the Activities Building
and include a potluck meal at noon.
Programs include special presentations of interest to all seniors adults.
On other occasions there are table games and/or Bingo.
All senior adults are invited to attend the monthly meetings and the monthly excursions to various places of interest. Membership in the Cumberland Church is not a prerequisite to attendance.
Monthly Group Trips
A few of the recent trips made are: The Renaissance Center, Dickson, TN; Reelfoot Lake to see the bald eagles and eat at Boyettes restaurant and to the Outlet Mall, Union City, TN; Opry Mills Mall, Nashville, TN; the "Tea Cup" museum, Trenton, TN; cruised on the Pickwick Belle with lunch in the Pickwick Lodge; Montgomery Bell State Park visiting the birthplace of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church followed by lunch at the Lodge, Dickson, TN; Lamberts Restaurant, Sikeston, MO; our new denominational center, Cordova, TN; the Civil War Museum, Corinth, MS; the IMAX Theater in Memphis, TN with lunch at the Pickadilly Cafeteria; Collierville, TN with lunch at the Silver Caboose; Chaffins Barn near Nashville, TN for matinee plays; trip to see day lilies, Humboldt, TN; the Christmas Symphony at FBC in Jackson. Sometimes we just go to a selected restaurant in or near Jackson; e.g. Cracker Barrel, Perkins Restaurant, Catfish Cabin, etc.
(These trips are made in the 25-passenger bus provided by the church. We do help cover the cost of gasoline.)
The XYZ supports various programs in the denomination and Jackson. Financial contributions have been made to Bethel College, McKenzie, TN; Memphis Theological Seminary, Memphis, TN; the new denominational center, Cordova, TN; the denominations Childrens Home, Denton, TX; Camp Clark Williamson, Three Way, TN; Health and Healing Clinic, RIFA, Angel Tree and Red Cross program all here in Jackson, TN; and the bus debt retirement program here at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The XYZ sponsors the collection of aluminum cans for the church and funds raised through this project support our contributions to outside causes.
Our seniors participate in Sunday School attending various classes, worship services and special events. They are very active in our Wednesday evening GLOW program and the Circles of our Cumberland Presbyterian Womens Ministry. Several are essential members of the Chancel Choir during our weekly worship service on Sunday.
Who are Seniors? Although AARP sets 50 years of age for their organization, our attendance seems to migrate to 65 and older though we have had some younger. The XYZ group is available for fellowship to anyone who sees himself or herself as a senior adult looking for a place to meet and get to know other senior adults.
