Ben Roberts, a young and talented illustrator, has adopted a straightforward approach to web design – one that puts his “doodles”, as he calls them, front and center. His homepage is comprised of only a few elements, allowing each to stand out. Illustrated navigation links are set in a full-width toolbar along the top, while an illustrated image of Ben himself serves as his clickable logo, and allows visitors to return to the homepage whenever they choose. Ben’s Doodle page, essentially a portfolio page, displays an easy-to-update, thumbnail grid-styled portfolio, with linkable images on hover to give visitors a better understanding of each work. The About Me page is sub-categorized into “Commissions” and “Featured Work”, both combining images and text in a clear, high-readable layout. Ben’s Contact page keeps to the same minimalist principles that characterize the rest of his website, and displays only a contact form widget. This is a good way for businesses and freelancers to both generate leads and give potential clients and colleagues the chance to quickly contact them through their free website.
