Through a friend I was briefly introduced to the world of charts, volume and technicals. I was immediately drawn in. Not too early too as the crash of 2k was on it's way.
Born and raised in New York. No doubt it's the financial capital of the world. Growing up was fun but back in the late 70's and early 80's it wasn't as safe as it's today.
Learned how to open accounts, fulfilled my duties and began my own business. Worked long hours and didn't sleep much as I was in the office over 12 hours a day.
Though the market trended lower Sept. 11th accelerated the descent. I learned a lot in those 2-3 years. I began to understand the Art of the Chart and was determined to be a master technician.
Went to high school and college. Worked remedial jobs and got fed up. Saw an opportunity and took it. Trained as a cold caller and then got my series 7 license.
Did well my first year earning low 6 figs. Business was growing. I hired people and had them working underneath me. I aimed for the stars and was on my way there.
With determination, devotion, studying, enjoyment of the art, and the most important, the GOD given gift of analyzing, I learned how charts could help predict future trends with great precision.
Charts, technical analysis, show the struggle between buyers and sellers over a chosen period of time. Charts provide a lot of information in a small amount of time and space. Charts can be used to analyze any tradable financial instrument to forecast future price movements.
How? History usually repeats itself and charts show previous price actions. Prices also tend to move in trends and patterns. The current price of an instrument usually reflects political, economic, social changes and prices in perceived future events.
To put simply charting helps the investor in evaluating financial instruments by analyzing market activity, volume and past prices.
“The crowd is usually wrong.” With that in mind the way the contrarian methodology works is simple. The amount of pessimism or optimism present in an investment vehicle helps to gauge complacency, fear or neutrality. . There are many ways to look at this, for example, analysts buys and sells, short positions and put to call ratio.
The sentiment of an investment vehicle must be opposite to the trend. For example, optimism on an investment vehicle, or market, which is trending higher, is anticipated. However, pessimism on an up trending is viewed as bullish to the contrarian, of course until sentiment turns bullish or euphoria.
